Depictions of male and female nudes in traditional art mediums had been mostly limited to portrayals as an ideal warrior or athlete for men or that emphasized divinity and reproduction for women and early photographic art first engaged these archetypes as well. Many contemporary artists push the boundaries by having work with both aesthetic qualities and explicit sexuality.
